While I was watching Don 2, first I guessed the end, I thought it must be like "The Score"
(*ing Marlon Brando, Robert Di Niro and Edward Norton). But no, Farhan Akthar
is a genius and he manages to engage the audience till the end with an
intriguing plot.
First let me take you
through the dark shades of the film. Don 2 starts another era of stylish
copycatism by taking help from its distant relatives in Hollywood - Prison
Break series, MI series, Ocean's Eleven and, surprisingly, James Bond's
"The World Is Not Enough" was generous to donate its theme music. For die-hard formulaic Bollywood fans, this one is a thumbs down. It has just
got two songs and no regulars. The Prison Break episode seemed to be so simple
and silly, and the way the team plans the heist where only SRK takes the baton
and leaves less for others to brainstorm, are some out of the place moments in
the film. I feel the screenplay could have been better and the script too could
do with more work.
On the flip side, the pace
of the film is brilliantly controlled; the tension rises as the heist starts up
and takes you to the edge of your seats. The end, when it comes, is unexpected,
a truly shattering climax to a film that kinda tried to think out of its box.
The sharp dialogue, chic visuals and slick editing combine to give an
originality and style which would inspire countless copies and set Farhan
Akthar on his way to becoming one of Bollywood's big players. Don 2 stands
apart as a fantastic film in its own right with its quirky, funny and heart
stopping moments.
Hope you will enjoy watching
it... NO AUTOGRAPHS PLEASE!!
